The 1879 Club, a dining club of fervent Fulham FC. fans, was formed in Harrods in November 2005. Mohammed al Fayed was the first patron, and the founder David Roodyn is still the Club Chairman. The club initially met at the Georgian Restaurant in Harrods. The first guest of honour was Alan Smith whose family support of Fulham extends over 4 generations and was the Academy Director after Mohammed Al Fayed acquired the club. Alan brought the then Fulham manager Chris Coleman to the next meeting and has been instrumental in the invitation of many guests of honour. Managers Ray Lewington, Roy Hodgson, Martin Jol and Kit Symons have been honoured guests over the years as well as Fulham legends, directors and senior executives.
The aims of the 1879 club are for supporters of Fulham to enjoy the fellowship and company of fellow fans; to enhance that support by a closer rapport with Fulham; to assist Fulham initiatives – the George Cohen Statue Appeal and The Fulham Foundation which we consistently support; and to enjoy fine wine and food in special venues.
The club meets 4 times a year and has 32 members. To join the club you have to be proposed and seconded by a member, attend an event as a guest, pay a joining fee of £150 and be a Fulham supporter for at least 5 seasons. The club is non-profit making and any surplus is allocated to the subsidy of future events.
